SWANS | Introducing the 'E-NOX NEURON' Sunglasses for Runners, Designed to Appear Upside Down

Yamamoto Optical Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 3-25-8 Chodo, Higashiosaka, Osaka; President: Naoyuki Yamamoto), manufacturer and seller of SWANS brand sports eyewear, will release the 'E-NOX NEURON' on December 20, 2017.
While SWANS has historically developed eyewear that fits Japanese people optimally, a recent hypothesis suggested that competitors' head sizes might be shrinking. Through repeated measurements of head shapes, we discovered an increase in competitors with unusually small head sizes, which would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.
This product was developed with the goal of 'enabling competitors with smaller faces to use eyewear without worrying about slippage.' While its unique design garnered attention as the 'upside-down glasses' in 2004, this shape offers a significant advantage: 'reducing shake and slippage by keeping the center of gravity low.'
Building upon that concept, the 'E-NOX NEURON' was developed to further enhance fit and accommodate smaller faces, resulting in a functional yet distinctive design.

Towards an Experience of 'Wearing' Rather Than Just 'Putting On'

■ Reduces shake and slippage during runs by keeping the center of gravity low with an 'upside-down temple shape.'
Explanation: Utilizing proprietary ergonomic technology and head data, we developed the 'under-temple design' that keeps the center of gravity low. This unprecedented hold feels integrated with the face, minimizing slippage and shake caused by vibrations during activity.

■ Ensures a 'wide field of vision' with a single-lens (one-piece lens) design.
Explanation: The 'rimless type,' which lacks a front frame to hold the lens, provides an unobstructed view for a wide field of vision. The lenses are made of polycarbonate, a highly impact-resistant material, and feature a hard coating to prevent scratches, known as 'PETROID LENS.'

■ Achieves a 'high level of fit' with a frame made of nylon, a material known for its durability, flexibility, and light weight, also used in medical applications.
Explanation: The frame is crafted from nylon, a material used in medical applications for its durability, flexibility, and light weight, ensuring a superior fit. This evolves the experience from 'putting on' to 'wearing.'

■ Developed with an 'adjustable nose pad' that can be customized to the height and shape of the nose.
Explanation: Features an adjustable nose pad that can be customized to fit the unique nasal and facial structures of Japanese individuals. It ensures a perfect fit for a wide range of users' faces.

■ Incorporates 'non-slip rubber' on the inside of the temples to prevent slippage and shake.
Explanation: Non-slip rubber is applied to the inside of the temples to prevent slippage and shake caused by vibrations during activity. This supports maximum performance over extended periods.

Supporting Olympic Medalists
The SWANS brand first supported Yuko Arakawa at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics with the release of the single-lens 'GULLWING' model. As the first sunglasses from a domestic manufacturer for track and field, they were highly acclaimed and became a major hit. Since then, we have continued to create various eyewear. For the 2004 Athens Olympics, we developed the 'e-nox-α' to support Mizuki Noguchi. In addition to her gold medal win, its distinctive design made it a major topic of conversation as the 'upside-down glasses.' In 2008, for the Beijing Olympics, the 'SOU' was created to support the same athlete. Today, they are used by everyone from professional athletes to running enthusiasts.
