Shimura Kimonos and Kesennuma Knits at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

For three days, from Saturday, February 10th to Monday, February 12th (holiday), Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, will host the special exhibition "Shimura Kimonos and Kesennuma Knits at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine."

The exhibition will feature kimonos from Atelier Shimura and knits from Kesennuma Knitting.

Atelier Shimura, a brand that carries on the artistic spirit cultivated by Itsutsumi Shimura and Yoko Shimura, crafts one-of-a-kind kimonos by weaving threads dyed with the colors of plant life into fabrics with profound dedication.

Kesennuma Knitting is a hand-knitted goods company based in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture. They offer sweaters and cardigans designed by knit designer Mariko Mori and handmade by local knitters.

As part of the "Kansho-ko Goshinki Sennen Taisai" (Millennial Commemoration of Emperor Kansho's Death Anniversary) initiatives, the exhibition and sale of collaborative works from these two companies will be held in the Archives building of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, constructed in 1901.

Additionally, a workshop will be held to dye a shawl using plum branches, inspired by Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.

This is a rare opportunity to witness the refined beauty of traditional Japanese craftsmanship firsthand.
