Audi's 2.5 TFSI engine wins International Engine of the Year for the ninth consecutive year.

Audi's 2.5 TFSI engine has won the International Engine of the Year award in the 2 to 2.5-liter class for the ninth consecutive year.

The primary reason cited for its selection was its impressive torque characteristics, generating 480 Nm at just 1700 rpm.

At the same time, the distinctive exhaust note, unique to a five-cylinder turbo engine, was also highly praised. The characteristic firing order of 1-2-4-5-3, with its adjacent cylinders firing in sequence, is the source of this engine's unique rhythmic character.

“The five-cylinder engine has been an icon of the Audi brand for over 40 years,” said Oliver Hoffmann, Technical Development Director at Audi Sport GmbH. “Two years ago, we completely re-engineered the classic 2.5 TFSI, giving it an aluminum crankcase.”

In addition to the Audi TT RS Coupé / Roadster, this five-cylinder engine is also featured in the Audi RS 3 Sedan / Sportback.

The 0-100 km/h acceleration times are 3.7 seconds for the Audi TT RS Coupé and 3.9 seconds for the Audi TT RS Roadster, while the Audi RS 3 Sedan / Sportback achieves 4.1 seconds.

The top speed for all four models is electronically limited to 250 km/h, with an option to increase this to 280 km/h.

The International Engine of the Year awards have been held since 1999, with 65 automotive journalists from various countries selecting the best engines across several categories.

This marks the 14th overall honor for Audi with the 2.5 TFSI's win.
