Every action is mindfulness. Journey to Finland, a land of profound balance.
For a "totonoi" journey, the reborn FINNAIR is your only choice!
If your trip is for relaxation, you want to spend the travel time comfortably rather than enduring it. Naturally, Finnair, with the most frequent flights among European airlines operating in Japan, is the obvious choice for your airline. Direct flights to Helsinki are available.
Departing late at night from Japan, you arrive in Helsinki early in the morning. Even when connecting to other European cities, you can reach your final destination by morning and check in safely on the same day. This is even more true if your destination is within Finland. Furthermore, the return flight departs from Helsinki in the evening, allowing you to utilize your final day effectively and avoid wasting any part of your itinerary. They truly understand the travel psychology of passengers from Japan. Additionally, with Japanese cabin attendants, language support is immediately available. From the captain's announcements to other necessary information, everything is provided in Japanese, giving you a sense of thorough support.
Business Class: Like a Scandinavian Sofa
The business class seats are less like seats and more like Scandinavian furniture relaxation sofas. The backrest wraps around the seat, offering ample freedom to adjust your position. What's truly wonderful is the ability to find your own comfortable posture by leaning back, which changes the backrest angle. Your view of other passengers is moderately blocked, maintaining a good level of privacy. While previous business classes focused on creating a private cabin feel, Finnair's business class has surpassed that with its design.
Of course, this business class reclines fully flat. While the backrest is fixed, operating a switch creates a footrest space that integrates with the forward flat area, completing the full flat surface. The foot area tapers like a slice of pizza, but conversely, there's ample space around the head area for sleeping. This provides enough room for turning over.
The cabin interior features a calming Scandinavian design. Amenities from Marimekko, Finland's renowned textile brand, and tableware from Iittala delight the eyes. The side table has a built-in wireless charger for smartphones, allowing you to charge your phone without cables, adding a futuristic touch.
The In-flight Meal and Wine Selection Exude Refinement
The quality of the meals is also excellent. The seasoning is exquisite, not too strong, not too bland, suiting the Japanese palate. Most importantly, the absence of default salt and pepper shakers demonstrates their confidence. In business class, herbs are added at your table, not only ensuring vibrant greens but also enhancing your comfort with their hospitality.
The wine selection is also superb. They don't just rely on the fame of the region but offer a diverse lineup considering the range of flavors. For those who appreciate wine, the choices are excellent. And the cheese served after the main course is outstanding. A light blue cheese, a moderately aged hard cheese, and strawberry compote are served as a set. For those who wish to continue enjoying wine, the dessert wine made from raspberries by the Finnish winery Ainoa is also recommended! It has a pronounced sweet and sour taste but also depth, creating a synergistic effect with the light cheese, making you want to swirl and savor it endlessly.
The Convenience of Vantaa Airport Should Not Be Underestimated
Incidentally, Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, which underwent a major renovation in 2023, is a hub airport in Europe. With Japanese signage and support from Japanese staff, it provides peace of mind for first-time travelers to Finland or Europe. From this airport, Finnair connects to over 100 cities in the summer season and over 70 cities in the winter season.
The lounge on the Schengen Area side has three shower rooms. No reservation is needed; they are available for 30 minutes if vacant, and amenities such as towels and toothbrush sets are provided. A warm shower after a long flight or while waiting for a connecting flight is incredibly welcome. Of course, unlike Japanese business lounges, the selection of food and drinks is significantly larger.
The lounge on the Schengen Area side, which I used while waiting for my connecting flight to Kuusamo after arriving in Helsinki. Incidentally, there is a similar lounge in the non-Schengen area, which can be used when returning to Japan. In either case, Finnair's lounges, being their home base, are exceptionally well-equipped. You can choose a relaxing spot from various styles, including sofa areas and desk areas.
Finnair has been ranked "Best Airline in Northern Europe" by Skytrax Awards for 15 consecutive years. From the cabin, Scandinavian design, efficient rationality, seat design, in-flight meals, and service – the aesthetics of Northern Europe are evident in everything.
The "totonoi" journey begins the moment you board. Understand that your trip to Finland, starting the moment you step onto a Finnair flight, enters a different flow of time.
