Jumeirah Expands to Africa, Set to Open Two New Destinations
Jumeirah
Jumeirah, a purveyor of luxury hospitality worldwide with its base in Dubai, has entered into a partnership with Tanda Group, which operates luxury resorts in Tanzania and South Africa. The company announced the upcoming opening of two new destinations in Africa: "Jumeirah Tanda Island" in Tanzania and "Jumeirah Tanda Safari" in South Africa.
A Private Island in Tanzania and a Nature Reserve in South Africa
Jumeirah, which operates 28 properties not only in Dubai but also in Europe and Asia, has announced its expansion into Africa.
The partner for this expansion is Tanda Group, which has a strong commitment to Africa. Leveraging existing facilities, they will open "Jumeirah Tanda Island" in Tanzania and "Jumeirah Tanda Safari" in South Africa.
Located on a private marine reserve off the coast of Tanzania, "Jumeirah Tanda Island" is an island resort spread across a 5-hectare islet. It comprises a special villa with five suites and two traditional Swahili-style bandas (huts) with two bedrooms each.
Guests have direct access to the sea, and a dedicated private chef and staff offer dining experiences using locally sourced ingredients.
Activities are abundant. Guests can immerse themselves in the island's natural rhythm while enjoying a variety of adventures, such as swimming with whale sharks, diving with sea turtles, or sailing to the nearby island of Chole aboard a traditional Arab dhow.
Furthermore, "Jumeirah Tanda Island" will promote marine conservation activities, an area Jumeirah has long been involved in at its properties in Dubai and the Maldives. Initiatives include coral reef restoration and protection programs for endangered sea turtles.
Meanwhile, "Jumeirah Tanda Safari" is situated within a lush wildlife reserve in the northern KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. This is one of Africa's premier conservation areas, home to the "Big Five" – elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffalo. The approximately 14,000-hectare site, equivalent to about 2,979 Tokyo Domes, features various luxury accommodations.
It is planned that new lodges and luxury tented camps will be introduced by 2027.
Guests can explore the vast plains, valleys, and mountains of the approximately 14,000-hectare private reserve on drives or walks with wildlife guides. They may encounter African elephants and giraffes up close, and wildlife can even be spotted from their rooms.
Guests can also enjoy dining under the stars, and a junior ranger course is planned for younger visitors. Furthermore, initiatives honoring and supporting the local Zulu culture will continue, as they have under the Tanda Group.
"Jumeirah Tanda Island" and "Jumeirah Tanda Safari" will begin accepting reservations from December 2024. Luxurious destinations await, offering opportunities to enjoy encounters with Africa's great natural beauty and wildlife.
