A Cosmopolis Where Diverse Cultures Converge
Making the most of a hotel in the city center.
This is indeed an advanced technique for adult leisure. Many may already be adept at utilizing such facilities, but it certainly can feel rather exclusive.
Over the past decade or so, I've traveled abroad 15 to 20 times a year. I've noticed that in major cities, people skillfully utilize hotels in the city center. They use them for after-work meetings, lunches, dinners, and bars, effectively integrating them into their routines.
While not as common in Japan, many hotels boast popular clubs. Some of the popular clubs in Manhattan's Soho or Chelsea districts are located in such places. On weekends, the lobby buzzes with activity. Of course, this deviates from the idea of a leisurely hotel stay, but it's a cultural phenomenon. Perhaps it's these experiences that shape young people into adults who can expertly navigate the city's hotels.
Now, regarding Tokyo, it can certainly be called a world-renowned metropolis. It's a cosmopolitan city where diverse cultures, from traditional customs to subcultures, converge. And now, it is poised for a new evolution as it prepares for the 2020 Olympics.
We turn our attention to how one might spend a holiday in Tokyo with such a backdrop. How about an urban hotel life, including a drive around the area? The car for this occasion is the Nissan Skyline, a model that has seen a full model change after a long hiatus. It's a perennially popular model that resonates deeply with the Japanese sensibility. The current model is an eco-car equipped with the latest hybrid system, perfectly suited for city driving, making it a cosmopolitan vehicle befitting its surroundings.

Designer Suites & Rooms with Four Distinct Themes
Our destination was the Hotel InterContinental Tokyo Bay, a hotel located on the waterfront, a short distance from JR Hamamatsucho Station. With excellent access to the Shuto Expressway, it offers efficient use of the Aqua-Line, connecting Kisarazu City in Chiba Prefecture with Tokyo.
It's possible to easily cross Tokyo Bay to purchase local produce from Chiba, or to enjoy golf, marine sports, and even clam digging depending on the season. Above all, the opportunity to savor delicious seafood is a welcome prospect.
Yet, it also allows you to experience the atmosphere of a great metropolis, which is the hotel's unique charm. The "Designer Suites & Rooms," renovated last year, perfectly encapsulate the allure of a city hotel. These four themed spaces are named "Luxury Oriental / New York Luxury / La Casa / Paris Maison." As you might imagine, the rooms are designed to embody these concepts.
For instance, "New York Luxury" evokes a Manhattan penthouse, while "Paris Maison" suggests a Parisian luxury residence. The view bath in the "Luxury Oriental" room, offering a view of the sea, can be considered urban in its own distinct way.
But that's not all. The "NY Lounge" on the first floor lobby provides a tranquil interlude in the city. The course-style afternoon tea served here is exceptional. Furthermore, the "Rainbow Bridge View Dining & Champagne Bar Manhattan," which opened just this April, elevates the urban night view experience.
You are treated to one of Tokyo's three great vistas, an unparalleled experience. In August, you can even witness the Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival.

The "Modern" Skyline
The Nissan Skyline is the perfect companion for this kind of Tokyo urban hotel experience. This iconic Japanese car enhances the urban ambiance. Moreover, the "modern" iteration is a hybrid vehicle. It caters to the needs of the eco-conscious cosmopolitan, capable of running in electric vehicle mode.
The newly redesigned model is sold in America under the Infiniti brand. Infiniti is Nissan's luxury brand, akin to Lexus for Toyota. In other words, its appointments are those of a premium sedan. Even a glance at the interior reveals no cheap finishes. It is equipped with everything from high-quality interior materials to cutting-edge driving assistance technologies.
What's more, its powerful and sporty performance is not to be overlooked. The combined output of the 3.5-liter V6 engine and electric motor reaches a maximum of 374 ps. Utilizing the 7-speed transmission in manual mode offers a more direct driving experience than you might imagine. Simultaneously, you'll be surprised by the handling that makes driving the car enjoyable.
It's truly engineered to perform powerfully on highways and sportily on winding roads. It seems that recent hybrid cars do not compromise on driving performance.
Thus, arriving at a city hotel in the Skyline. Indeed, it fits surprisingly well. The Infiniti brand's reputation in America is well-earned. Gripping the steering wheel of this car transforms a Tokyo holiday into a luxurious moment.
