10 SOUNDS OF LIFE SCIENCE: Musicians Visualize Ten Themes
Vol. 2 "Research Park" by no. 9
“10 SOUNDS OF LIFE SCIENCE” is a web content project that uses music to express the characteristics of Kyowa Kirin, a research-driven life science company, making its business more accessible. The theme for the second installment is "Research Park," created by composer no. 9.
Text by IWANAGA Morito (OPENERS)
Returning to a Time Filled with Humanism
“We want to deliver better medicines to patients, faster.” To meet various social needs in healthcare, Kyowa Kirin has established the Tokyo Research Park (Machida, Tokyo) and Fuji Research Park (Nagaizumi, Shizuoka) as research and development hubs for highly original, world-leading new drugs.
They search for the "seeds" of pharmaceuticals, nurture them into strong "sprouts," and carefully tend to them even after they have "bloomed." It is a path of progress, akin to proving that humans are indeed human. This is the research and development undertaken here every day.
The artist for the second installment of the “10 SOUNDS OF LIFE SCIENCE” project is composer no. 9. To gain a deeper understanding of this installment’s theme, “Research Park,” he visited the facilities and found significant inspiration.
What no. 9 witnessed at the research park was the earnest dedication of the researchers. He saw parallels between their commitment and his own musical journey, recalling the time when he first touched an instrument and became lost in his craft, forgetting all else. What kind of music emerged from that experience?

The track is titled “time and days.” Melodious refrains on guitar and piano harmonize with organic percussion. This 4-minute, 21-second piece, filled with blissful sound, seems to evoke memories of when we first encountered something that made us lose track of time, and the joy of that discovery. This audio is available for a limited time via streaming and download on SoundCloud.
