That Shocking Impact Returns with a Roar! The Michelle Gun Elephant Last Live Performance to be Screened for a Limited Time
MUSIC|THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT "THEE MOVIE" -LAST HEAVEN 031011-
Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, a rock and roll band that blazed through the Japanese music scene in the 90s, was also a formidable live act. A documentary film capturing their final concert, released in 2009, will be specially screened for five days at the end of November as part of DIVE IN CINEMA Vol.2. This screening, a collaboration between incense brand AGNI and Human Trust Cinema Shibuya, offers a precious moment not only for their devoted fans but for all rock enthusiasts who missed experiencing that era firsthand.

Renewed Appreciation for a Legendary Band That Defined the 90s
As evidenced by the recent fervor surrounding Oasis's tour in Japan, which garnered significant attention on television and social media, 90s music culture is currently a major topic of conversation. This phenomenon is creating a movement that engages not only those who were active in their teens and twenties during that time but also generations born after it. Amidst this resurgence, it is only natural that renewed focus is being placed on Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, a charismatic force that spearheaded the Japanese rock scene of the 90s.
The Tragic Loss of a Guitarist and the Passing of a Charismatic Frontman After Their Disbandment
There is little need to recount their musical achievements here. However, the sudden death of guitarist Hiroshi Abé in 2009, after the band's dissolution, cemented Thee Michelle Gun Elephant's status as a legend in Japanese rock history. The film "Thee Michelle Gun Elephant "THEE MOVIE" - LAST HEAVEN 031011-" was released that same year as part of a tribute project. In 2023, vocalist Yusuke Chiiba also passed away after battling illness, making it forever impossible to hear his powerful roar again.
A Unique Sound System Recreating the Atmosphere of Live Performances
In an era where any music can be streamed for free on smartphones and PCs, listeners find value in one-off live performances, leading to fervent engagement. This screening event, dedicated to reproducing the legendary band's live sound as faithfully as possible to its original state, involved on-site remastering at Human Trust Cinema to fully leverage the capabilities of the Odessa system installed in Theater 1. It has been reborn as the Odessa Edition, offering an immersive experience as if you were actually present at the Makuhari Messe in 2003.
This screening event, allowing a re-experience of Thee Michelle Gun Elephant's raw live energy, runs for five days from Wednesday, November 26th to Sunday, November 30th. On three of those days—Wednesday the 26th, Friday the 28th, and Sunday the 30th—viewers will be able to stand and vocalize, fully immersing themselves in the experience. It's a rare opportunity to be enveloped by the powerful sound and to let out cheers as if you were truly there. This is an unparalleled chance for long-time fans and for rock enthusiasts who never had the chance to witness that era.
