Featuring Maestro's Signature Mahler Symphony No. 5

The Boston Symphony Orchestra is renowned as one of the world's most distinguished orchestras. Founded in 1881, it has seen numerous celebrated conductors grace its podium. Notably, Seiji Ozawa served as its 13th Music Director for 29 years, from 1973 to 2002, a fact well-known among classical music enthusiasts. This year, Andris Nelsons is set to become its 15th Music Director.

Conducting this historic orchestra is the legendary Lorin Maazel, who was hailed as a child prodigy and continues to be active at the forefront of the music world at the age of 84. He made history by conducting most of America's orchestras by the age of 15 and has since served as music director for world-class orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic and the Munich Philharmonic. He will present a performance imbued with a depth of musicality only attainable through years of experience and wisdom.

On the 9th, the program will feature Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35, with Janine Jansen, known for her regular collaborations with leading orchestras worldwide, as the violin soloist. The concert will also include Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique, Op. 14, a piece that can be considered one of the maestro's signature works.

The following day, the 10th, will showcase Mahler's Symphony No. 5, a personal favorite of Maazel's, and Mozart's Symphony No. 38 in D major, K. 504, "Prague."

The profound music delivered by the solitary maestro Maazel and the esteemed Boston Symphony Orchestra offers a rare opportunity to witness a potentially historic performance in Japan.
