CHICANO BATMAN at Motion Blue Yokohama
With their lo-fi soundscapes born from vintage gear and home recording, beautiful lyrics, and delicate arrangements rooted in Brazilian and Latin music… CHICANO BATMAN, the four-piece act currently drawing significant attention in California, have earned high praise from the globally distributed music magazine "WAX POETICS." They will perform at Motion Blue Yokohama on Friday, November 8th.

Hypnotic Sounds That Evoke a Mysterious Charm
Chicano Batman draws inspiration from Brazil's Caetano Veloso, funk icon Isaac Hayes, and the 1970s Mexican pop band Los Ángeles Negros.—Neo-vintage electronic rock inspired by '70s rock/funk and the spirit of Brazilian Tropicália! CHICANO BATMAN, who have garnered immense support from Japanese music fans across genres, are finally making their long-awaited arrival in Japan.
Their sharp aesthetic, which reinterprets the retro styles of '70s Mexican '60s rock (grupero) and jazz bossa nova through both sound and fashion, is striking. Beneath this lies a profound political contemplation rooted in the experiences of second-generation immigrants (two members raised in LA are of Mexican descent, and two are of Colombian descent). Their artistic spirit, a deliberate fusion of the old and new, Latin America and the USA, Spanish and English, and even the UFW (the farmworkers' organization led by César Chávez, a key figure in the '60s Chicano civil rights movement) with the icon of Batman, deviates entirely from the established context of Chicano rock, resonating deeply with a wide range of music enthusiasts.
Their debut album "Chicano Batman" (August 2011), the EP "Joven Navegante" (June 2012), and a highly anticipated full-length album are nearing completion. For their first visit to Japan, they plan to perform popular tracks from their existing albums, new songs from the upcoming release, and authentic cumbia featuring the accordion. It's sure to be an unforgettable party, capturing the essence of contemporary California.
