An Early "New Year's Gift" of a New Single Release
Atoms for Peace was formed by Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, and Nigel Godrich, known for his work with Beck. The five members initially came together to perform Yorke's 2006 solo album, "The Eraser," live. Finding their collaboration so seamless, they decided to form a band.
"This band is a continuous, open-ended project, and I don't know where it will lead. But that's precisely what makes this project so appealing," Thom Yorke commented on the Radiohead website.
They embarked on a US tour in 2010 and performed at various rock festivals. For their Japanese fans, their first appearance was at "Fuji Rock Festival" that same year. Afterward, they spent a few days in the studio crafting songs. It seems there was a good reason for making fans wait two years for the official release.
"We decided to let the songs we made in the studio sit for a while, in a state of ongoing work. We kept them steeped in the space between electronic and live performance," Yorke explained. True to his words, Yorke and Godrich spent two years nurturing the songs, simmering and refining them in the studio and on their laptops.
The highly anticipated debut album, "Amok," born from this process, will be released in Japan first, ahead of the rest of the world, on Wednesday, February 20th. Featuring the debut single "Default," released as a surprise last September, the album comprises nine exquisite tracks that perfectly fuse electronic elements with the live energy of instrumental performance.
Furthermore, fans who have patiently awaited the release will receive another early "New Year's gift": the release of the second single, "Judge Jury and Executioner." While listening to this track, which was also performed at "Fuji Rock Festival" two years ago, we can anticipate the album's arrival.
