A 27-Year-Old Genius Captivating the World
Based in LA, 27-year-old producer, musician, and DJ Jason Chung, known as Nosaj Thing, began creating music at the young age of 13. He quickly distinguished himself by winning numerous beat battles and remix contests.
While a regular performer at "Low End Theory," a pivotal party in the LA beat scene, he has collaborated with top artists like fellow LA native Flying Lotus and produced for the buzzworthy rapper Kendrick Lamar.
His skills as a remixer are also highly acclaimed. He has worked on tracks for artists such as Radiohead and Charlotte Gainsbourg, and was featured among esteemed artists like Amon Tobin, Cornelius, and Thundercat in a Philip Glass remix project curated by Beck.
Synchronizing Cinematic Soundscapes with Visuals
Nosaj Thing's tracks are characterized by robust beats inherited from hip-hop, sound design and melancholic synth melodies reminiscent of Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada, and basslines honed through his experience with "Low End Theory."
The lead single "Eclipse / Blue" features Kazu Makino of Blonde Redhead, who also contributed to Battles' album. The album as a whole deepens its cinematic soundscape by incorporating warm electronics and live instruments.
Nosaj Thing, who has actively collaborated with visual artists, enlisted Daito Manabe, an interactive artist known for his work with Perfume's visual direction and the Electraglide 2012 installation, to direct the PV for "Eclipse / Blue." Their collaboration is also planned for Nosaj Thing's world tour supporting this album, making it an experience not to be missed live.
Big news from the LA beat scene continues even as the year draws to a close. With this release, it's undeniable that a wider audience will be captivated by Nosaj Thing's sound.
