Performing Diverse Songs Across Cultures and Genres

Pink Martini was formed in 1994 in Portland, Oregon, by pianist and leader Thomas M. Lauderdale. They made their European debut that same year at the Cannes Film Festival.

Pink Martini began as a quintet, but evolved into its current style in 1997 when they welcomed vocalist China Forbes, a college classmate of Lauderdale's from Harvard University. The band expanded to a 12-piece big band and currently comprises 13 members.

Lauderdale's beautiful piano melodies and Forbes' exquisite vocals create a gorgeous performance, transporting listeners as if into the world of a musical film from Hollywood's golden era.

They perform not only classical, jazz, film music, and Japanese enka, but also standard numbers from around the world. Including their original compositions, they have established a cosmopolitan style that transcends culture and genre.

In 2011, their collaboration album "1969" with Yorie Saori introduced the charm of Japanese enka to the world, earning them many fans in Japan as well.

Pink Martini will make their first appearance at Blue Note Tokyo. This marks their first visit to Japan in five years. The performances are scheduled for three days from Saturday, October 27 to Monday, October 29, 2018. Pink Martini promises to bring a sense of nostalgia and warmth to older generations, and a fresh sensibility to younger audiences. We invite you to experience the world of Pink Martini and rediscover the joy of listening to music.
