Focus on the Beauty of the Mobile Concert Hall

The "Lucerne Festival Ark Nova 2017 in Tokyo Midtown" will be held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Tokyo Midtown's opening, featuring the esteemed Swiss music festival, "Lucerne Festival."

Lucerne Festival held a total of three concerts and workshops in three locations—Matsushima, Fukushima, and Fukushima—from 2013 to 2015 as part of reconstruction support following the Great East Japan Earthquake, attracting a total of 19,000 attendees.

It was during this time that the giant mobile concert hall "Ark Nova" was created. It was conceived by "Lucerne Festival" and "KAJIMOTO," a music agency in Japan responsible for inviting overseas orchestras.

Designed by architect Arata Isozaki and British sculptor Anish Kapoor, this colossal mobile concert hall measures 18 meters in height, 30 meters in width, and 36 meters in depth.

Tokyo Midtown supports this reconstruction initiative and, six and a half years after the earthquake, will exhibit "Ark Nova" in Tokyo for the first time this autumn, hosting various events over 16 days.

Mini-concerts will be held, primarily indoors and outdoors, featuring members of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, who will perform in Japan in October, as well as graduates of the Lucerne Festival Academy, vocalist Daichi Fujiki, guitarist Koji Ohgishi, and cellist Gen Yokosaka.

Additionally, film screenings will take place inside "Ark Nova." As part of a special program linked with "Roppongi Art Night," a major art event in Roppongi, a talk event will be held featuring Arata Isozaki, Michael Helfried, Artistic Director of Lucerne Festival, and Makishi Kajimoto, Representative of KAJIMOTO.
