13 Tracks from Recent Works to Past Masterpieces

"THREE" is a self-cover album by a trio, following "1996," released in 1996, which also featured past masterpieces. Sakamoto himself plays the piano, joined by his longtime friend Jacques Morelenbaum on cello, who also participated in "1996," and Judy Kang, newly selected through auditions, on violin.

The album was recorded in Portugal immediately after the trio's European tour in the fall of 2011. It includes 13 tracks, ranging from recent works to timeless classics, such as "Harakiri（Death of a Samurai）endroll - from a Takashi Miike Film“Ichimei”," the theme for Takashi Miike's 2011 period drama film "Ichimei," "High Heels," written for the 1991 Spanish film "High Heels," and the theme from the 1983 film "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence," "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence."

In anticipation of the new album's release, a full album listening party will be simultaneously streamed on Ustream, Niconico Live, and Pig Channel starting at 7 PM on Wednesday, October 10th. The event will feature a roundtable discussion with individuals connected to Ryuichi Sakamoto, commentary on the songs by Sakamoto himself, and a lottery for viewers to win an analog vinyl of "1996."

"THREE" offers a unique charm only a trio can provide. It's a cover album to be savored on quiet autumn evenings.
