Held for Three Days at Shibuya Hikarie

TOKYO DANCE MUSIC EVENT (TDME), Japan's first international conference and event focused on dance music, was held in December 2016. In 2017, it will be held over three days at Shibuya Hikarie.

International dance music conferences, such as "Winter Music Conference (WMC)" (Miami, USA) and "Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE)" (Amsterdam, Netherlands), are held on a large scale in various countries worldwide and continue to grow.

At TDME 2016, founders and representatives from various music labels, large-scale festivals, and events from Japan and abroad took the stage. Furthermore, the event attracted a wide range of attendees, including business professionals involved in music and students aspiring to enter the music industry, with approximately 40 companies participating. It became an event that will be remembered in the history of Japanese dance music.

This event aims to transmit Japan's unique dance music culture from Tokyo to the world, in preparation for 2020 when Tokyo will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the world's attention will be focused on Japan. It seeks to promote the revitalization of the dance music market and related businesses, and to foster the penetration, maturation, and further development of dance music culture.


TDME is comprised of three parts: "CONFERENCE" (international conference), "SESSIONS" (music production), and "LIVE" (music performance).

"CONFERENCE" is a conference for professionals in the music business, marketing, art, and technology industries. "SESSIONS" features workshops and studio sessions for music producers with participation from renowned artists. "LIVE" is a live event featuring domestic and international artists held at clubs and live houses in the Shibuya area.

The conference speakers include Tetsuya Mizuguchi, globally acclaimed creator known for groundbreaking games such as "Rez" and "Sega Rally," and other professionals active in creative fields. More speakers will be announced sequentially.

Coker Lauren Rose, Chairperson of the TDME Executive Committee, commented on the highlights of TDME 2017: "Last year, nearly 15 percent of our attendees were foreign nationals. This year, we are expanding the scale further, so I am excited to see this grow even more globally. As the global dance music market is rapidly expanding, now is the time for Japanese artists to advance internationally. Through TDME, I hope to connect with the latest global music culture, promote Japanese artists' activities abroad, and foster collaborations with overseas artists and events."
