A Powerful Duo: Two of the Most Cutting-Edge Soloists from Japan and Portugal
Kunihiko Komori x Pedro Carneiro Concert
A marimba duo concert by Kunihiko Komori, an internationally active marimbist, and Pedro Carneiro, a marimba player from Portugal, will be held in Tokyo and Nagoya in November. We asked Mr. Komori about the highlights of this concert.

A Marimba Duo Concert Featuring the World's Most Esteemed Works
—This is a duo concert by you and Pedro Carneiro, both soloists who strive for the pinnacle of marimba music, but you are also undertaking a new endeavor, aren't you?
This will be the premiere of "Book of Grooves," a marimba duo piece jointly commissioned by us from Alejandro Viñao, an Argentinian composer who is currently garnering significant attention from marimba players worldwide.
Typically, when commissioning a composer, one person (or organization) commissions exclusively and holds exclusive performance rights for a certain period. However, by forming a collaborative team of musicians worldwide who are familiar with Viñao's music, we aimed to accelerate the dissemination of the work through simultaneous performances in various locations, thereby achieving broader and faster penetration.
—You will also be performing a work by Steve Reich.
We will also have the Japanese premiere of Steve Reich's latest work, "Mallet Quartet." Reich is considered a master of minimalist music who has influenced the global music scene. This piece, however, is not a duo but a quartet featuring vibraphones.
—What are your aspirations for this performance?
Above all, I am confident that the explosive energy generated by the chemical reaction when Kunihiko Komori and Pedro Carneiro, two highly individual soloists active internationally from Japan and Portugal, unite as a duo unit will set this performance apart from typical duo groups. We sincerely hope you will attend.
