Movits!'s Sound: A Hip-Hop Style Captivated by Swing
Movits! presents an eccentric swing world. Originally formed as a duo by brothers Johan (vocals and lyrics) and Anders (DJ, composition, and production), they initially released music centered on acoustic hip-hop and reggae. However, after saxophonist Joakim joined and they began performing live primarily in Europe in 2005, elements like drums and horns, more characteristic of jazz, were incorporated. From there, Movits!'s sound gradually evolved.

"Our sound is a hip-hop style captivated by swing. We aimed to be a hip-hop band unlike any other, something even we hadn't done before."
—From an interview at "SXSW (South by Southwest)" music convention in Texas, USA.
Their sound is truly unique, heavily influenced by the king of swing jazz, Benny Goodman, while also drawing significant inspiration from the style of Andre 3000 of the hip-hop group OutKast. Furthermore, they maintain their identity by rapping in their native Swedish, sometimes tackling social issues. Their hit single "Fel Del Av Garden" is one such song; despite its upbeat rhythm and stylish music video, the lyrics question the structure of massive capitalist society.
After more than three years of recording, their first album, "Äppelknyckarjazz" (Europe only), released in 2008, became an instant hit. The following year, it crossed the ocean and was released digitally in the United States. In April 2011, they released their second album, "Out of My Head," worldwide. In Japan, as soon as official distribution began, they have been steadily gaining fans with their highly addictive sound.
Perhaps hearing of their popularity in Japan, their latest music video for "Sammy Davis Jr." even features Japanese subtitles. And now, these "swing cats," who are currently the most talked-about, are making their long-awaited return to Japan for the first time in about a year and a half since February of last year. Don't miss this chance to immerse yourself in their sensational swing world over three days from September 7th (Friday) in three cities: Tokyo, Fukuoka, and Kumamoto.
