Gilles Peterson, the revered evangelist of music with a massive following even in Japan, is hosting his live event, the "Worldwide Awards" (hereafter referred to as "WWA"), on Saturday, January 16, 2016 (local time) at the historic KOKO venue in London, UK.

Now in its 11th year, the "WWA" is a music awards ceremony with seven categories, including "Album of the Year" to honor the best album of the past year, "Track of the Year" for the standout songs, and "Session of the Year" to celebrate memorable collaborations that impressed listeners and critics alike.

The shortlist is finalized in December each year, with public voting conducted via Gilles' radio show and online platforms. The results are announced on the day of the live event. The previous "WWA 2015" saw artists like Fatima and Taylor McFerrin among the top nominees, highlighting its role as a launchpad for emerging musicians.

The nominees for the upcoming "WWA 2016" include formidable contenders who transcend borders and genres, such as Alabama Shakes, Hiatus Kaiyote, and Kendrick Lamar, showcasing the richness of music in 2015. Esteemed artists like Islington-born rapper Little Simz and jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold are scheduled to perform. The highlight, however, will be a super band performance featuring the African diva ESKA (a Mercury Prize nominee) and Kamasi Washington. This promises to be an unmissable night, offering a glimpse into the future of the music scene.
