New Album Features Post-Punk Rhythms

Producer and DJ ANDREW WEATHERALL has remained a key figure in the UK music scene for his 30-year career. He is now releasing his first album under his own name in seven years, "Convenanza."

As a music journalist, he co-founded the fan magazine "Boy’s Own" with DJ Terry Farley and others, covering music, fashion, and football. In 1988, he began his DJ career at the legendary acid house party "Shoom."

His subsequent work as a producerHis remixes of Happy Mondays' "Hallelujah," Primal Scream's "Loaded," and the subsequent production of the historic album "Screamadelica," as well as his remix of My Bloody Valentine's "Soon," need little introduction.

The list of artists he has produced or remixed is extensive, including Björk, New Order, Spiritualized, and Fuck Buttons.

In his own projects, he has released works on the prestigious Warp label as Sabres of Paradise and Two Lone Swordsmen, and on his own Rotters Golf Club label, including solo works that summarize his rich career and releases with Timothy J. Fairplay as The Asphodells. He has consistently led dance music across diverse styles such as electronica, techno, dub, electro-punk, and rock, achieving a crossover between rock and dance music.

This new album began as a spontaneous collaboration with his longtime associate Nina Walsh from his Sabres of Paradise days. While featuring stripped-down sound design, the album is anchored by an approach to rhythm that can be described as post-punk rhythm.

Tracks like "Frankfurt Advice," with its unsettling trumpet and wild guitar, and "Thirteenth Night," which echoes the "aftermath" of Sabres of Paradise's historic track "Smokebelch II," create a seemingly chaotic first impression, yet the album offers an experiential journey where listeners can discover the musical experiments and specific sounds he has been involved with.

He is also set to headline "RAINBOW DISCO CLUB 2016," held in Higashi-Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture, during Golden Week this year, and will hold club events in Tokyo and Osaka for the first time in four years.
