Featuring a Legendary Performance That Ignited the Crowd with Early Classics

“NO NUKES” is a music event initiated by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto in 2012. As the title suggests, it is themed around anti-nuclear activism, bringing together domestic and international artists who responded to the call.

The inaugural 2012 event garnered significant attention, featuring performances by electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk, among others. This marked the first collaboration between Kraftwerk and YMO on stage, a pairing that has since become legendary among music fans.

The newly released live album, ‘NO NUKES 2012,’ captures YMO’s performance from that 2012 stage. The concert opened with a cover of Kraftwerk’s “Radioactivity,” followed by the band unleashing long-awaited early tracks like “Firecracker” and “SOLID STATE SURVIVER.” The setlist, focused on danceable numbers, sent waves of jubilation through the venue, thrilling not only long-time fans but also a younger generation experiencing YMO for the first time.

Coinciding with this release, the 2011 YMO live DVD, ‘Yellow Magic Orchestra Live in San Francisco 2011,’ has also been reissued on Blu-ray. This recording documents their performance on June 27, 2011, at The Warfield in San Francisco. With support from Keigo Oyamada, Tomohiko Gondo, and Christian Fennesz, the palpable energy of the local fans, set against a backdrop of cool, unified lighting, attests to the exceptional quality of this live show.

‘NO NUKES 2015’ Announced for November 28th

Furthermore, the upcoming ‘NO NUKES 2015’ has been announced. While Ryuichi Sakamoto was unable to participate in last year's event due to focusing on his treatment, he will officially return as an organizer this year, delivering a powerful message. The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 28th, at Toyosu Pit in Koto Ward, Tokyo. Details regarding performing artists and other event information will be announced sequentially.
