The 20th "Gainsbourg Night" Event

Born from a tribute CD to Serge Gainsbourg, the music event "Gainsbourg Night" celebrates its 20th anniversary. This year, artists connected to Gainsbourg in Japan will gather at Roppongi Super-Deluxe in Minato-ku, Tokyo, for an event on Monday, July 20th (a public holiday).

A Musical Tribute to an Icon Who Defied His Era

Serge Gainsbourg, the great icon, constantly provoked the media as a singer, lyricist, composer, film director, and actor. More than 20 years after his passing, his presence remains undimmed, with countless fans worldwide.

In Japan, the tribute CD "Gainsbourg Tribute 95" was released in 1995, created by a stellar lineup of Gainsbourg admirers, generating considerable buzz. "Gainsbourg Night," launched to commemorate the CD's release, has continued to inherit Serge Gainsbourg's spirit and expressive style by singing about the topics of each era, whether mainstream or niche.

This year marks the 20th anniversary, and musicians from Japan who carry Gainsbourg's DNA will all be performing. Featured artists include Tatsuyuki Kōmuta, formerly of Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, and Shuichiro Sakaguchi of "Double Famous," who was chosen for Jane Birkin's world tour band, among other notable performers.

Also joining are pianist Hiroshi Minami, known for his work with Kahimi Karie; Yoko Hamasaki and Tenma Matsunaga from the rock band "Urban Dance"; and the unique duo "Kuroiro Sumire." Each artist will perform their own interpretation of Gainsbourg's songs.

Additionally, "Baguette Bardot," created by artist Tostie as a homage to Brigitte Bardot; the techno-pop unit "Poison Girl Friend"; chanson singer Yasuko Kurokawa; and accordionist Saburo Tanooka will participate. Furthermore, the organizer, Kenzo Saeki, will appear with his special electric ensemble, "Kenzo Saeki & Club Je t'aime."
