Made for $25,000 with support from Tarantino, the Coen Brothers, and others
Strutter, which humorously depicts a young man's personal growth through stylish visuals, is not only compelling in its content but also remarkable for its production. It was made with a total production cost of just $25,000 (approximately 2.5 million yen), with various support and cooperation from talented directors who lead the American independent film scene, including Quentin Tarantino, Monte Hellman, Gus Van Sant, and Ethan Coen.
Co-director Kurt Voss himself handled the cinematography with a Handycam, and director Allison Anders' children managed the camera and music, realizing a film production with a thoroughly low budget. The actors in the film are also friends of both directors. Notably, Terry Graham, the drummer for the legendary 1980s punk band "Gun Club," and Ariel Pink, appearing as a customer in a used record store, are among the cast, with numerous points of interest for rock fans scattered throughout.

Nothing Goes Right
Brett is suddenly dumped by his beloved girlfriend, leaving him in despair. To make matters worse, he's then told that his band members are leaving. Amidst this, he hears a rumor that his ex-girlfriend has started dating Damon, a musician he respects, and is filled with rage.
Realizing he must give up on her, Brett asks his friend Cleo out on a date, but it ends in failure due to him drinking too much. The band, already on the brink of collapse, inevitably disbands. With nothing going right and his heart broken, he decides to go on a road trip. On his journey, Brett grasps what's truly important and, to put an end to their ambiguous relationship, asks Cleo out on a date again. What is the "answer" he arrives at?
