The "Mavericks," colossal waves that appear off the coast of Northern California. There were men who risked their lives to conquer them. This moving film, 'Of Men and Mavericks,' depicts the true story of Jay Moriarty, a genius surfer who died at 22, and Frosty Hesson, the veteran surfer who mentored him, brought to life with breathtaking visuals.

Frosty, the veteran surfer who mentors Jay, is played by Gerard Butler. Johnny Weston, in his major film debut, takes on the role of Jay Moriarty, who challenged the legendary waves at the young age of 16. Elizabeth Shue plays Jay's mother, and Abigail Spencer portrays Frosty's wife.



The film is co-directed by two veterans: Curtis Hanson, the acclaimed director of 'L.A. Confidential,' and Michael Apted, known for 'The World Is Not Enough' (James Bond series) and 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader'.

Filmed in locations such as Santa Cruz, California, the production successfully captured the awe-inspiring waves on film, something never before achieved. The project was realized with the support of Frosty himself, Jay's wife Kim, renowned figures from the surfing world, and local surfers and residents who carry on the spirit of "Live like Jay."

The Bond Between Jay and Frosty, and Their Challenge

Jay Moriarty, a high school student living with his mother, learns that the "Mavericks," known as colossal waves, appear near his home in Santa Cruz. He seeks guidance from his neighbor, the legendary surfer Frosty Hesson, who teaches him the techniques and spirit required to ride these massive waves.

As Jay and Frosty embark on this near-impossible challenge, a strong bond and a father-son-like friendship blossom between them. Amidst the unfolding tapestry of life, including a budding romance with his childhood friend Kim and his connection with his mother, the day finally arrives for Jay to confront the "Mavericks."—.
