Holy Motors: A Day in the Life of a Man Who Plays 11 Roles

Starring Denis Lavant, Carax's Cinematic Alter Ego

Leos Carax, a director with a fervent following, presents his highly anticipated feature film, the first in 13 years since "Pola X" in 1999.

The film follows "Mr. Oscar" over the course of a single day as he transforms into 11 different characters while traveling through Paris in a limousine. Mr. Oscar is portrayed by Denis Lavant, a frequent collaborator with Carax and often seen as the director's own alter ego. The cast is rounded out by a glamorous ensemble, including Eva Mendes as a beautiful top model and Kylie Minogue, who lends her singing voice.

Traveling Through Paris in a White Limousine, Like a Mobile Backstage

The film chronicles a day in the life of Mr. Oscar as he journeys from one existence to another. Accompanied only by his driver, Celine, he navigates the streets of Paris in a white limousine that resembles a backstage dressing room, complete with an array of makeup. In each location, he embodies a different persona: a corporate CEO, a killer, a beggar, a monster, and even a father.

Mr. Oscar seems to relish inhabiting these roles, but where is the camera? And where are his home, his family, his place of rest?.

Carax's signature visual artistry and mysterious narrative converge in this work, a deeply personal endeavor that reveals new facets of the director's genius.
