Young Master Cedric Kahn and Acclaimed Actor Guillaume Canet Join Forces

‘A Better Life’ delicately portrays a young couple and a child struggling with the complexities of family life and money. Filmed with a realism that evokes documentary cinema, it brings to the surface what is truly important in life and what constitutes ‘a better life,’ even as they are tossed about by circumstances.

Guillaume Canet, a leading figure in French cinema who has starred in numerous acclaimed films such as ‘The Aria of the Battlefield’ and ‘The Measure of Love and Hate,’ delivers a powerful performance as the protagonist, Yan. The role of Nadia, who falls in love with Yan, is played by the captivating actress Leïla Bekhti.

The film is directed by Cedric Kahn, a young master filmmaker who has also received the Louis Delluc Prize, one of France's highest film awards.

Yan, who turns to consumer credit to open a restaurant, quickly becomes a victim of multiple debts.

Yan, who dreams of becoming a chef, meets Nadia, a single mother working as a waitress, and they fall in love. One day, they discover an empty house by a lake. Yan has an epiphany: “This would make a wonderful restaurant,” and immediately calls the real estate company to secure the property.

However, they lack the funds. Yan turns to several consumer credit companies to raise the down payment, rapidly falling into a spiral of multiple debts. Furthermore, because he cut corners on essential equipment to save costs, the fire department denies him an operating permit, leaving him in a critical situation where he cannot open the restaurant.

To escape this predicament, Nadia is offered a job with better conditions than her current one, but it's in Canada. Yan and Nadia's son, Slimane, are forced into a meager shared existence in a cheap lodging arranged by the loan shark. Inevitably, a father-son bond begins to form between them. However, contact with Nadia in Canada is lost....

Through the challenges and setbacks in pursuit of his dream, Yan discovers what truly matters. Facing seemingly insurmountable problems, the sight of this ‘new family’ moving forward with faith in tomorrow is sure to leave you with a sense of refreshing emotion.
