'The Yellow Elephant' marks the first on-screen pairing of the currently beloved Aoi Miyazaki and Osamu Mukai. The film movingly depicts a couple who marry soon after meeting, experiencing the pain that comes with love, and while wounded, come to know, cherish, and respect each other. This is a world that could only have been realized by director Ryuichi Hiroki, a master of romance films known for his portrayals of various forms of love in films like 'Vibrator' and 'One Month of Love.'
The cast includes Aoi Miyazaki, who wrote on the book's obi (band) that she someday wanted to play the 'wife' character, and Osamu Mukai, who recommended this novel as a must-read in a magazine. Furthermore, Akira Emoto and Chieko Matsubara provide strong support, playing the couple surrounding the husband and wife alongside Lily Franky and Tamaki Ogawa. The film also boasts a stellar voice cast, featuring Ren Osugi,佑 Emoto, Sakura Ando, and Kengo Kora.
A Grand Love Story Blending Fantasy and Reality
Aiko Tsumi (Tsumi), who has cherished the picture book 'The Yellow Elephant' since childhood and can hear the voices of trees and animals, meets Ayumu Muko (Muko), an unsuccessful novelist with a large bird tattoo on his back, on a full moon night, guided by a yellow light. They marry soon after. Despite harboring 'secrets,' they spend their days in peace and happiness.

However, their relationship begins to falter significantly after Muko receives an anonymous letter. Muko, haunted by his past, and Tsumi, whose condition deteriorates as she cares for him. Muko then heads to Tokyo alone, determined to confront his past.
This is a grand love story about a married couple who, through their mutual gaze, grow into true partners, all while blending fantasy and reality.
