November Screening Featured "Annie Hall"

Nakameguro Cinemas is a free film screening project born in Nakameguro, an area without its own cinema. By embracing the entire neighborhood as a venue, the project aims to share the inherent joy and emotional resonance of film with a wide audience through encounters with quality works and special cinematic experiences like outdoor screenings.

This initiative also functions as a new "community and cinema revitalization project," where the regular, widespread offering of film as entertainment synergistically invigorates both the movies and the town. Furthermore, in conjunction with "Nakameguro Village Marche," a recurring food experience project also held in Nakameguro, it seeks to further stimulate the local area.

Ahead of the official launch of Nakameguro Cinemas, a small-scale preview screening was held in November. A massive screen covered an entire wall, and "premium seats"—antique sofas, chairs, and rugs laid out on the floor—offered a unique viewing experience. Woody Allen's masterpiece "Annie Hall" was screened to a full house. The event also featured a discussion and talk show with film writer Kenji Matsuzaki and film critic Kei Nakai, providing an unprecedented way to enjoy a film.

Reflecting feedback and requests from this preview event, a second preview is planned for late December. Where in Nakameguro will we encounter what kinds of films next? With its official launch approaching, Nakameguro Cinemas is one to watch.
