A new form of visual storytelling: “Angle mini Movie”

Shinsuke Sato, the film director and screenwriter behind "Sand Chronicles," "GANTZ," and the Fuji TV Monday 9 PM drama "Lucky Seven," is launching a new project. His company, Angle Pictures, will begin streaming mini movies set in Tokyo's Nakameguro district on August 20th. This innovative initiative condenses approximately 15 minutes of footage into one-minute mini movies, with two installments planned each week (Mondays and Thursdays). We're excited to see this new venture unfold.

The heroine of Vol. 1 is Mayu Matsuoka, star of "Mr. Suzuki" and "Kirimaru, It's Time to Quit the Club."

The inaugural installment (vol.1 Mayu Kihara “NOTE”) centers on Mayu, a high school girl living in the Nakameguro area. Over 15 episodes, emerging actress Mayu Matsuoka portrays her experiences during two pivotal days as she contemplates her future path.

Shinsuke Sato, who is spearheading this new project, shares: "I've always enjoyed making short films. Having started in independent cinema, I've continued to create my own works even after turning professional. With the current possibilities of online distribution, I'm thinking about how we can continue to produce small-scale pieces."

"I want to create small visual works that capture the fleeting, everyday moments often overlooked in larger films or television productions. I aim for them to be accessible anytime, anywhere, during brief moments of free time. This mini-movie series is born from that desire."

"I approached Ms. Matsuoka after seeing her in an acting workshop. She possesses a unique quality that isn't always apparent in standard auditions, and I felt she was perfect for this role. I wasn't sure if she would be open to participating in such a small project, but she readily agreed. Moreover, I was struck by the power in her every expression and gesture."
"This work contains no dialogue; in that sense, it's a silent film. Yet, her atmosphere, emotions, and even her character come through with remarkable clarity. Ms. Matsuoka's captivating presence is what truly anchors this piece. I believe it's a visual work that compels viewers to watch it again and again."
