Shown in one sitting with three intermissions. A gift for attendees!

A luxurious time for audiences to dedicate their entire day to a single film on screen.Iwanami Hall, located in Jinbocho, Tokyo, is a historic cinema that began screening films in 1974 with the concept of "Équipe de Cinéma" (French for "film companions"), founded by the late Kashiko Kawakita and Etsuko Takano. Its inaugural presentation was "The World of Apu" (totaling 5 hours, 40 minutes), the third installment of Satyajit Ray's "Apu Trilogy," a masterpiece in world cinema history.

The "Équipe de Cinéma" aims to feature films such as: masterpieces from non-Western countries like Asia, Africa, and Latin America that are rarely shown in Japan; acclaimed Western films overlooked by major distributors; cinematic masterpieces not previously screened in Japan; and films that were incompletely shown due to cuts, actively working to bring them to the public.

In an era dominated by the "logic of cineplexes" where films are quickly pulled if attendance is low, Iwanami Hall upholds the screening period for a single film at one cinema for an extended duration. This summer, we invite you to immerse yourself in the Italian epic, "The Giordano Family." Additionally, during the screening of "The Giordano Family," Italian-themed gifts will be offered (refer to the website for details).

— Story —

The Giordano family lives in Rome. On the surface, they appear to be a happy family with no hardships: the father is an engineer, the mother a former doctor, the eldest son Andrea works for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the eldest daughter Nora is a psychologist, the second son Nino studies architecture, and the third son Lorenzo is a high school student. However, following the unexpected death of the third son, the family confronts their hidden issues and difficulties, leading each member to leave home one by one. The wanderers encounter people as if by fate.Including a female undocumented immigrant and her daughter, a Frenchman with an incurable disease, and a captain who lost his memory on the battlefield... Just as a small stream eventually flows into a great river, the destinies and lives of the father, mother, Andrea, Nino, and Nora intertwine once more, forming a larger family that transcends blood ties and ethnicity. Towards a richer, more open future, like the open windows of the Giordano house in the final scene...
