Significantly reduced burden on women. A treatment that causes no wounds or pain to the body.
In recent years, regenerative medicine has been gaining attention in the field of infertility treatment, and menstrual blood-derived stem cells are reported to have the potential to improve ovarian function and the uterine environment. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, a type of regenerative medicine using blood, is already being applied to infertility treatment with favorable outcomes reported.
At Jingu Gaien Woman Life Clinic in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, the clinic has launched Japan's first treatment: "Ovarian and Uterine Cavity Infusion of Autologous Menstrual Blood-Derived Stem Cells for Infertility."
This treatment involves collecting the patient's own menstrual blood. Menstrual blood, which women typically find burdensome and discard, is rich in stem cells. After collection, these cells are cultured outside the body and then directly injected into the patient's ovaries, with the aim of improving ovarian function. By improving ovarian reserve function, the chances of increasing egg retrieval numbers and obtaining high-quality eggs are enhanced.
Since menstrual blood is used, cell collection does not cause wounds or pain, and the body is not cut. This may offer a new option for those seeking to increase egg retrieval numbers, obtain high-quality eggs, or struggling with infertility.
What is "Regenerative Medicine"?
Regenerative medicine aims to restore lost function by actively using cells and artificial materials for biological tissues and organs that have impaired or failed function. It holds the potential to bring new treatments for injuries and diseases that previously had no cure. Furthermore, regenerative medicine technologies are being used to elucidate the causes of intractable diseases and develop new drugs.
