An Artistic Journey in the Global City of Toronto

Toronto, Canada's largest city, is home to approximately 2.8 million people. It goes without saying that it is a center for business and entertainment, but it is also famous as a city of mixed cultures, with more than half of its population born outside of Canada. It was during this time, from sunset on Saturday, October 4th, to the morning of Sunday, October 5th, that Nuit Blanche, an art festival now in its ninth year, was held in this international and diverse city. We explored Toronto's charm from an artistic perspective at this large-scale art event that transforms the entire city into a gallery.

A One-Night Art Festival
Experiencing Nuit Blanche
Nuit Blanche attracted approximately one million visitors to Toronto. This all-night art event, meaning "sleepless night," originated in Paris, France. It became a successful cultural event that brought new charm to the city and has since spread worldwide, including to Toronto, Brussels, and Kyoto. On this particular night, Torontonians were prepared for an all-nighter, heading out into the city as dusk fell, which had taken on a slightly different atmosphere than usual.

The Aga Khan Museum Opens
In September of this year, the Aga Khan Museum opened in the suburbs of Toronto. The building was designed by Pritzker Prize winner Fumihiko Maki. The museum houses over 1,000 precious artifacts that convey Islamic culture, including manuscripts, ceramics, paintings, and carpets. Opening a museum in Toronto, a city of mixed cultures, also carries the role of accurately conveying Islamic culture to people from various cultural backgrounds.
