Staying at Chewton Glen, One of Britain's Finest Country Hotels (Part 1)

London isn't the only tourist destination in the UK. While places like the Lake District and the Cotswolds are famous, this time we'll take a trip to the pastoral town of New Forest, a long-time favorite resort area for the Royal Family, with the theme of "Britain's Royal Culture of Tradition and Innovation." We'll find solace in the beautiful nature at Chewton Glen, a country hotel renowned among travelers worldwide.

Embraced by the Nature of New Forest

About a two-hour drive south from central London lies New Forest, a pastoral town in Hampshire that has long been favored by the British Royal Family, surrounded by lush greenery and nostalgic scenery. Once a royal hunting ground, it is now a national park, designated as one of Britain's most environmentally friendly retreats where wild animals roam freely. It's gaining attention as a secluded resort area where one can enjoy a British-style vacation amidst its nature-rich environment.

Nestled within this tranquil forest is a country hotel beloved by travelers worldwide: Chewton Glen, one of Britain's premier luxury hotels. Passing through the main gate reveals a magnificently manicured English garden. The brief journey to the entrance transports you instantly into a scene seemingly plucked from a storybook.

Chewton Glen began its life as a country house in the 18th century. Its main building, a traditional brick structure, embodies an elegant country style. The guest rooms, with their windows and terraces, offer views of the beautiful gardens. The suites, enchanting to anyone with an eye for beauty, retain the charm of old England with antique furniture and refined fabrics, while also boasting modern amenities like WiFi and AV equipment, reflecting sophisticated hospitality and up-to-date facilities.

New Endeavors at a Historic Country House

In October 2012, separate from the main building, the "Tree House Suite" was newly opened, offering a more immersive experience with nature. There are six structures in total (housing twelve suites), each designed with a modern aesthetic that contrasts with the elegant country style of the main house. The balconies, set against the backdrop of the vast natural landscape, feature jacuzzis, and a kitchenette is also provided. Designed in a maisonette style to accommodate young families, it offers a charming holiday experience, allowing guests to fully enjoy the outdoors in the New Forest.

A Detour to Cliveden, a Manor House Favored by British Gentlemen

Perched on a hill overlooking the River Thames, Cliveden is renowned as one of the finest hotels favored by British gentlemen. Built in 1666 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham on 376 acres of land, it has been home to royalty and nobility for generations. The current structure, rebuilt after two fires, was constructed in 1851 as the residence of the Duke of Sutherland, with Charles Barry, architect of the Palace of Westminster (the current Houses of Parliament), involved in its design.

In 1942, Cliveden was donated to the National Trust, a voluntary organization established in Britain to protect historic buildings. Since 1985, it has operated as a premier 5-star hotel. Of course, Cliveden offers more than just accommodation; guests can also enjoy afternoon tea. Located conveniently close to Heathrow Airport, this distinguished manor house offers a delightful opportunity to casually experience British culture while admiring the gardens.
