Ryuichi Sakamoto's Reconstruction Initiative for Japan

Ryuichi Sakamoto andskmtSocialpartner Tomoyasu Hirano, a media creator, have launched kizunaworld.org, a project to support the swift recovery and reconstruction of disaster-stricken areas. This initiative aims to utilize proceeds from artwork donations by various artists and contributions for long-term support of the earthquake and tsunami damage. Here, we will introduce the artworks released and their latest developments.

KIZUNA motonoto version

The third release features "KIZUNA motonoto version," a new rendition by electronic musician and producer Alva Noto, who adds a new musical layer to "KIZUNA," originally created for the project's first installment. Additionally, "modern interior," a collaborative piece by renowned musician David Sylvian and Norwegian musician Jan Bang, expressing their thoughts for those suffering and lost in the disaster, will be unveiled.

kizuna world-arve henriksen+pf mix

The second work in this project is a video collaboration featuring Ryuichi Sakamoto's new song "kizuna world- arve henriksen + pf mix" and photographs from the disaster sites provided by the Japan Visual Journalism Association (JVJA). The song is a version of "kizuna world," which Sakamoto created for the promotional video of "3/11 Tsunami Photo Project" (Kodansha), enhanced with trumpet by Norwegian musician Arve Henriksen and Sakamoto's piano.

Valerio Berruti's animation work

The first donated work is the animated piece "KIZUNA" (top image), a collaboration between initiator Ryuichi Sakamoto and Italian contemporary artist Valerio Berruti. This animation was first presented in Japan by Berruti in January 2011, with music composed by Sakamoto at the end of 2010 for this animation. The donation of this work was realized through Berruti's wish to contribute to the support of disaster victims.
