Market TERRACE, a buffet-style restaurant with a refreshing open-air terrace nestled in the woods, opened on July 29, 2010, within the grounds of the wholesale market in "Little Edo" Kawagoe. Leveraging its unique location, the restaurant offers a diverse menu of 50-60 dishes spanning Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisines, with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced daily from the market. For dinner, popular culinary researcher Michiko Matsuda, known for her work in magazines, cookbooks, TV commercials, party planning, and system kitchen development, participates in menu creation, featuring original BBQ as the main course.

Market TERRACE is situated in a spacious woodland within the Kawagoe Wholesale Market, offering guests the chance to enjoy the rich natural beauty of Musashino throughout the seasons. In addition to 44 indoor seats, the restaurant boasts ample terrace seating: 48 seats on a wooden deck inner terrace and 48 seats on an outdoor terrace (available from July to September), allowing diners to immerse themselves in nature. Here, one can savor the luxury of enjoying food and drinks while listening to the chirping of birds and the sounds of insects, feeling the sun, stars, and wind.

This project was realized with the full cooperation of the Kawagoe Wholesale Market. The restaurant's production was overseen by Sadahiro Nakamura of Transit General Office, Inc., known for his involvement in high-profile projects such as "The SOHO" and "TABLOID." The architectural and interior design was handled by Shigeru Kubota of Kubota Architect Urban Design Office. With the desire to "leverage the natural environment preserved within the market grounds," the design prioritized blending into nature with minimal tree removal.

A Diverse Selection of Healthy and Delicious Dishes

Market TERRACE redefines the conventional all-you-can-eat concept, which often prioritizes quantity over quality, by offering healthy and delicious dishes made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. The highlight of the dinner menu is the BBQ, developed in collaboration with culinary researcher Michiko Matsuda. Dishes like "Beef Skirt Steak with Fruit Marinade" are tantalizingly described, and chefs prepare the ingredients, enhanced to bring out their natural flavors, right before your eyes. The grilled dishes, which can be enjoyed with over 10 types of original spices and sauces, including "Aotou Shoyu" (green chili soy sauce) and herb pastes, are exceptional. Other recommended items include fried chicken coated with crushed persimmon seeds, edamame tofu and okara donuts from Kawagoe's renowned Yasukuni Tofu shop, and the restaurant's original soy milk soft serve.

The "Saitama Kawagoe Wholesale Market" is a comprehensive wholesale market comprising approximately 75 specialty stores, offering everything from fresh produce, seafood, and meats to processed foods, cooking supplies, packaging, and signage. Known as the "Kitchen of the Central-Western Saitama Region," it is a large-scale market frequented by professionals every morning. On Saturday mornings, from 9 AM to noon, it opens to the public as the "Freshness First Customer Appreciation Fair," attracting over 2,000 visitors each time. The establishment of Market TERRACE, as part of its community contribution initiatives, is expected to further invigorate the market.

Kawagoe, also known as "Little Edo," is a popular tourist destination with many preserved historical townscapes featuring traditional storehouses and temples, attracting approximately 6 million tourists annually. It's easily accessible from Tokyo within 30 minutes to an hour by car or train, making it an ideal spot for a day trip.
