Yohji Yamamoto Appears in Opening Special Interview
'The Next Generation FASHION DESIGNERS' delves into the creative minds of Japan's young fashion designers. The book is divided into two categories, clothing and accessories, showcasing the creative work and profiles of these emerging talents brimming with youthful sensibility.
The special interview at the beginning features Yohji Yamamoto. Titled 'Aphorisms – Be Japan's Pride. Designers Challenging the World,' he shares his thoughts from his Paris Collection debut, discusses what today's younger generation lacks, and elaborates on the spirit of garment making with his unique philosophy, offering words of encouragement to young designers.
The book also includes an interview with Yoko Kawashima, Director of ifs Future Lab, who discusses the future of the fashion business. She analyzes the Japanese market and consumer trends to explore the role of designers in business. These contributions illuminate the full picture of 'future fashion' from various perspectives.
This book introduces emerging fashion designers, viewing the spirit of 'iki'—inherent in the Japanese DNA—as the essence of 'Cool Japan' that the nation can proudly present to the world. We encourage you to explore the ambitious creations of these new designers.
