Wolfgang Tillmans was born in Germany in 1968. He began publishing works on youth culture, such as club scenes, in the 1980s for magazines like *i-D*. In 2000, he received the Turner Prize, Britain's most prestigious art award.
His first retrospective exhibition was held at Tate Britain in London in 2003, followed by his first solo museum exhibition in Japan at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery in 2004. His new exhibition, *Affinity*, is currently on view at WAKO WORKS OF ART in Roppongi until Saturday, March 15.
This book chronicles his 20-year career and introduces his "new frontier" composed of layered images that express contemporary simultaneity. Upon opening the pages, Tillmans' signature layout unfolds, combining his latest series, *Neue Welt* (A New World), shot while traveling the globe, with his past works.
Furthermore, the book includes artworks directed by Tillmans himself, such as pieces created through direct manipulation of light and photosensitive emulsions on photographic paper, resulting in abstract compositions. Through his latest interview in Berlin, essays by Minoru Shimizu and Tom Holert, and an interview with Beatrix Ruf, the book delves into the new stage of photographic expression Tillmans has reached.
Tillmans' "new world" reveals a new frontier in photographic expression. *BT BOOKS Wolfgang Tillmans* is a volume that allows us to witness the evolution of his creativity as he continues to be a leading figure.
