Born in Yokohama, Robert Harris left Japan after graduating from Sophia University in 1971 and wandered through Southeast Asia. After staying in Bali for a year, he moved to Australia, where he managed the bookstore and gallery 'Exiles' and spent 16 years working for the Australian national television station, handling English subtitles for Japanese films. Upon returning to Japan, he became active as a radio navigator and writer. His 1997 book 'Exiles,' a reflection on his own life, became a bible for young people dreaming of traveling the world.
'WOMEN: Tales of the Women I Loved,' Robert Harris's first new book in six years, features his romantic history, theories on love, and family affection, spun from his witty and sophisticated prose. Fifty-three pieces are presented alongside "maxims" about love from famous figures like Woody Allen and Victor Hugo.
The book also features the many women with whom Robert Harris shared love. It is an homage filled with gratitude and respect for each one.
To commemorate this publication, a talk show and signing event with Robert Harris and author Kouta Ishii will be held at Daikanyama T-Site on June 12 (Wednesday) at 7:30 PM. Additionally, Robert Harris will hold a talk show and signing event at Kinokuniya Bookstore Shinjuku South Store on June 22 (Saturday) at 6:00 PM.
Robert Harris says, "I don't think I could have come this far, living so vibrantly, authentically, and openly, without them." This is a hymn to women, marking a new chapter for Robert Harris. Picking it up will surely help in understanding the enigmatic existence that is 'woman.'
