INTENTIONALLIES' First Portfolio is Now Available

The first collected works from INTENTIONALLIES, an architecture and design firm that handles all aspects of design in daily life, has been published. This impressive volume features a collection of their projects that have influenced the creative scene.

By Yuzu Kuromiya

A Volume Packed with 15 Years of Work, From Architecture to Home Appliances

Since its establishment in 1995, INTENTIONALLIES has been involved in all aspects of design for daily life, including interiors, industrial products, and furniture, not just architecture. Their first collected works, "INTENTIONALLIES SHAPING JAPAN AND BEYOND," has been released by the Dutch publisher FRAME.

INTENTIONALLIES initially started as a label practicing monozukuri (craftsmanship) through architecture. This portfolio compiles projects from their first 15 years, offering a rich chronicle of their evolution. Readers will be struck anew by the breadth of their work and its consistently high quality.

The collection includes numerous projects such as the "Hotel CLASKA," a landmark renovation of a dilapidated hotel that became Japan's first design hotel, and the "United Cinema Toyosu," which created an entirely new theater space. It also features shops like "Gravis" and "United Arrows," and the "atehaca" and "amadana" series, which redefined the image of home appliances.

INTENTIONALLIES 02

In addition to the works themselves, the book includes texts, sketches, and drawings by representative director Yohei Tsuchiya. Many photographs are accompanied by introductions to their approach to product design, as well as interior and architectural design, making it a substantial read beyond just viewing the projects.

While engaging with diverse genres, INTENTIONALLIES consistently identifies the intrinsic needs of each project, resulting in a body of work that always carries their distinct style. We invite you to fully appreciate their elevated design sensibility, which has forged a significant path in the creative landscape.
