Art Truck Projects "Haru-go" and "Akebono-go" Symbolize This Year's Art Night
Roppongi Art Night began in 2009 as a proposal for a new lifestyle that enjoys art within daily life. This all-night art festival takes place from sunset on Saturday, April 25th to sunrise on Sunday, April 26th as its core hours.
The main program symbolizing this year's theme is the "Art Truck Project: Haru-go & Akebono-go," featuring large illuminated trucks equipped with LEDs. Created under the leadership of Seiichi Saito, who this year takes on the newly established role of Media Art Director and heads Rhizomatiks, these trucks will appear as the symbols of this Art Night.
At Haru-go, which stands at Tokyo Midtown as a working vehicle with a personality of its own, live painting by notable artists MAHARO and DOPPEL will bring it to life.
Meanwhile, Akebono-go, an art truck equipped with a giant mirror ball that travels through the streets of Roppongi, will also serve as a stage for futuristic performances and collaborations between media art and performance.
Additionally, there will be numerous installations throughout the city, a staple of Art Night. These include Yuichi Onna's "Candy," which slowly rotates like a mirror ball, and "The Connecting City" by Jay Moon, where participants selected from public submissions complete the work by holding LEGO bricks. By scattering artworks across shops, streets, and parks, the event aims to re-highlight the charm of the Roppongi district.
This year also features exhibitions of public submissions, a first, and workshops led by Katsuhiko Hibino. Furthermore, events and performances unique to Art Night will take place, such as the "3rd Roppongi Yoraku-kai" (Roppongi Night Gathering), where acclaimed artists like Makoto Aida, Hajime Anzai, Kōji Shirakaba, and Tsuyoshi Ozawa will share a table with a small group of participants at restaurants around Roppongi for unscripted, theme-free talks, all contributing to the art feast.
A one-night festival where the streets of Roppongi are dyed in art. A variety of programs will guide visitors into a dreamlike spring night.
