Installations That Stimulate Perception and Fully Engage the Senses
Jim Lambie was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1964. He is a globally acclaimed contemporary artist who was selected as Scotland's representative at the Venice Biennale in 2003 and nominated for the Turner Prize, one of the UK's most prestigious awards, in 2005. In Japan, his works have been exhibited at numerous museums, including a solo exhibition at the Hara Museum ARC in 2008.
Jim Lambie creates vibrant installations from everyday materials such as aluminum foil, mirrors, vinyl tape, and paint. Deeply rooted in color theory, his work explores the psychological effects of space and color, often with an awareness of synesthesia between sound and color. He is also known for his work as a musician and DJ, skillfully incorporating elements of music and pop culture, including vinyl records and pop icons, into his art.
This exhibition features new paintings with colorful guitar cables inserted into their surfaces. Additionally, he presents new works where 16 bicycle wheels are transformed to resemble the sun.
The exhibition also includes an installation where metallic vinyl tape is stretched across the gallery floor, directly stimulating the viewer's perception and fully engaging their physical senses. Alongside these new works, visitors can also see 'UltraLow' (1998), an early video piece depicting the flickering light of a cigarette being smoked in a pitch-dark basement, resembling fireflies.

Lambie's work, which incorporates multifaceted references to contemporary society and everyday environments, combines elements of playfulness and improvisation. He creates by responding to the forms, colors, and materials of the everyday, challenging viewers' perceptions by liberating everyday, off-the-shelf products from conventional constraints.
