North Wing: Japanese Art | South Wing: Contemporary Art
Art Fair Tokyo, which has bridged the gap for many to encounter art, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. This year's event features a new design with a "window" overlooking the future of Tokyo as its main visual. Over 140 galleries and companies from more than 30 cities, both domestically and internationally, are exhibiting. Furthermore, 26 galleries are participating for the first time, creating a lineup befitting this milestone.
This year, the venue is divided into a "North Wing" and a "South Wing." The North Wing showcases approximately 90 booths, featuring galleries ranging from leading Japanese institutions to international players. Many works will be on display, showcasing rich expressions backed by unique Japanese techniques, as well as pieces comparable to those found in museums. The South Wing, on the other hand, hosts around 40 galleries primarily dealing in contemporary art, offering an experience focused on curated exhibitions.
Additionally, the special exhibition "Artistic Practice," a staple of Art Fair Tokyo, returns this year. Titled "Rinpa is Pop / Pop is Rinpa," it introduces contemporary Japanese artists themed around the Rinpa school, celebrating its 400th anniversary. Furthermore, "Contemporary Art from Japan as Seen by Venice" offers a survey of Japanese contemporary art through works by Japanese artists such as Yasumasa Morimura and Tabaimo, who have exhibited at the Venice Biennale, arguably the world's most influential international art exhibition.
Beyond these, the venue will also feature the presentation of "ANDO×ANDO-Photographs," a portfolio collection of Tadao Ando's first photographic works of his own architecture, produced using the platinum print technique, at the booth of Amanasalto Inc. Various other events are also scheduled throughout the exhibition period.
Art Fair Tokyo allows visitors to enjoy art by viewing and purchasing it. We hope you find a piece that captivates your heart amidst the diverse array of art gathered here.
