Taka Kawachi to Moderate Discussion on Various Topics
Alec Soth, a photographer drawing attention as a leading figure in the current photobook boom, is widely known for his breakout work "Sleeping by the Mississippi" (Steidl, 2004). His latest collection, "SONGBOOK," published by MACK, features black-and-white images taken between 2012 and 2014, traversing from New York to Silicon Valley and capturing the lives of people within communities shaped by unique regional cultures.
This collection draws from works previously published in The New York Times and Soth's own tabloid series "THE LBM DISPATCH" under his label "Little Brown Mushroom." It focuses on the human emotion of seeking fundamental connections, removing the originally accompanying text and re-editing the images with lyrics from various songs. The book lyrically portrays the emotions of Americans, exploring individualism and the yearning for connection, and the space between them.
The talk event will feature Taka Kawachi, Chief Director of Amanaphoto Collection, as moderator. Discussions are planned to cover the creative process behind "SONGBOOK," the current landscape for photographers and photobooks, and upcoming solo exhibitions around the world.
