The two themes form a pair, embodying Kaoru Izima's worldview on human life and death.

The ongoing exhibition “One Sun” is a series from the past few years where Izima has energetically traveled to various locations worldwide, tracing the sun's daily path.
This series, confronting the harsh natural world beyond human control, captures the sun's trajectory over a full day with a fisheye lens, reflecting his awe at the sun's majestic beauty.

“Landscapes with a Corpse,” opening September 26 (Sat.), is a project Izima has continued since 1993. It features collaborations with actresses and models, meticulously setting the scene, attire, and manner of death for an "ideal demise."
His work, which asserts that "death is a part of human life," juxtaposes beauty with the edge of terror. The models, adorned in creations by renowned fashion brands like Jil Sander and Alexander McQueen, appear as if from a cinematic scene in their depiction of death.



Working on this project, Izima states he became acutely aware of his own deep-seated fear of death, and that to overcome this fear, he needed a personal religion as an anchor for his life.

“One Sun” represents one answer he has arrived at through the creation of his death series. The sun, which shines equally on all places and people, is presented as his divine entity.
