Creating Works with Motifs Such as Water and Gas, Refining Concepts
Nerhol is known for their distorted portrait works. Since their formation in 2007, they have consistently produced works that seem to pierce the heart of consumption and creation, oblivion and the colossal cycles, continuously generated by modern economic activity.
Their long-awaited new exhibition, 'tries to return/かえりみる', will be held at Gallery KOKO. Gallery KOKO, established in 2010 on the second floor of Maison Martin Margiela in Ebisu with the aim of allowing visitors to leisurely and slowly appreciate contemporary art while seated on sofas and chairs in the city center, holds exhibitions irregularly. This marks their first exhibition in approximately two years.
While Nerhol has primarily focused on portraits, this exhibition features new motifs such as water spilling from a bottle, flames from an oil stove, or water boiling on a gas stove. The exhibition comprises approximately six new works. An opening event with the artists will also be held on the first day, April 22 (Tuesday).
Water, gas, and oil. All are familiar substances, transported to our hands from afar through various means. Nerhol's duo sought to capture the 'form' of these things, which we consume unconsciously in our daily lives and take for granted. We eagerly anticipate seeing their new works, where they have pursued and refined their concepts.
