Photographer Chikashi Kasai, born in Tokyo in 1970, has consistently captured the raw, underlying scenes of his subjects, going beyond superficial notions of beauty or ugliness. After spending his youth in Germany and graduating from Tama Art University, he was discovered by the renowned American photographer Nan Goldin. Influenced by Nobuyoshi Araki, Kasai released his photobook "Tokyo Dance" in 1997, garnering attention both domestically and internationally.

Since then, he has delved into the inner worlds of numerous actresses, actors, and musicians. In December of last year, he published the photobook "MUSCOVITE," featuring actress Yoko Maki photographed in the outskirts of Moscow and elsewhere. This exhibition commemorates that release.

"MUSCOVITE" refers to Muscovites, as well as the meaning of Moscow's glass and crystals. Kasai photographed Yoko Maki in the Moscow suburbs, holding a FUJI FinePix X100 digital camera. The photobook captures her natural self in private settings, such as at a dacha, hotel interiors, and on the subway.

The exhibition will showcase approximately 30 original prints in half-size format, created for this show, interspersed with portraits of Maki and Moscow cityscapes. All prints are for sale, and related items such as the photobook will also be available for purchase.

"MUSCOVITE" captures Yoko Maki's radiance as an individual woman, enveloped by the live essence of snapshot photography and a documentary gaze. We hope you will experience the newly revealed charm of Yoko Maki alongside the atmosphere of Moscow.
