Araki's Gaze Captures the Summer After 3.11
The "special summer" following 3.11 marks the first since the event. The exhibition will feature snapshots of daily life and street scenes captured on 6x7 black-and-white film. Alongside this, a photobook titled "Photography Summer 2011," containing 85 of these snapshots, will be released in a limited edition of 700 copies. This photobook, which evokes the shadows of the Showa era despite being shot this year, also features contemporary actors like Meisa Kuroki making unexpected appearances, revealing new facets of their expressions.
Furthermore, the collection includes approximately 150 works where Araki has personally torn in half photographs from his lifelong series such as "Faces of Japanese People," "Erotic Wives," and "Kinbaku" (Bondage). The new Araki of the post-3.11 era is captured here.
