A Floating Sensation, Like a Dream Remembered

Kurigami is known for her work on Yousui Inoue's CD jackets, Kanto Nakamura's photobooks, and the film "Gelatin Silver Love." Beyond these projects, she has also published collections of photographs of subjects that inspired her, without a specific theme, such as "Yo to Hone" (1984) and "Diary" (2005). Now, she presents "Yo to Hone II," a collection of 120 selected works from an extensive archive of photographs taken with a Polaroid SX-70 between 1972 and 2011. The exhibition features eight pieces in their original Polaroid size and two large prints enlarged to 180x180cm.

Kurigami describes the allure of Polaroid: "The Polaroid SX-70 was released in 1972. When using this thin, box-shaped camera, the process becomes less of a reflexive reaction and more of a thoughtful observation. The image that emerges within the square frame has a floating quality, like a memory from a dream, lacking a sense of depth and reality. Its superficial appearance is captivating because it renders all existing things as images of equal value."

Visitors can experience a different facet of photography, distinct from Kurigami's sophisticated advertising work.
