Aleix Gordo, who grew up exposed to the animations of Akira Toriyama and Katsuhiro Otomo, boldly incorporates the influence of "MANGA culture." Tadaomi Shibuya, whose style of linearly reconstructing various motifs has earned high praise in Western scenes. This collaboration brings together two artists standing on an intriguing balance.
Prior to the exhibition, Aleix created a mural art piece featuring a Tengu with a Japanese aesthetic, while Tadaomi Shibuya depicted a powerful Nio. The collaborative mural, with its striking black lines, depicted a Tengu and a Nio in a dialogue that symbolized the two artists, welcoming guests.
At the opening party, approximately 100 guests attended, enjoying unique fusion food and drinks that reflected the exhibition's theme. The highlight of the evening was the live painting by the two artists and a mural installation on the wall, synchronized with the DJ set by Olive Oil and Dr. Ihara from "JKD Collective," an "audio + visual hybrid artist group" founded by Bruce Ikeda. Their powerful session captivated the attendees.
The two described their collaborative work as "very stimulating." It was an evening that offered a glimpse into the mature expression of live painting and mural art in Japan today. Keep an eye on these two artists.
