RIO moved to the United States alone at age 15 to study pop art. After attending art high school and art college, she returned to Japan and has continued her creative work while also active as a popular radio DJ.



This exhibition, her first solo show in Tokyo, centers on "Biodiversity." It will showcase 20 pieces, including new and existing works, such as her signature monochrome marker drawings on white canvas.



Also premiering is "Region 1," a special video art piece directed by RIO herself, offering a glimpse into her world, viewable only at the venue. The production boasts a remarkable creative team: Hiroyuki Ota, known for his design work with luxury brands like Dior and Cartier, served as Art Director; Hiroyuki Ueno, a photographer with a distinctive visual style seen in CD jackets, handled the photography; Naoshi Nagatani, a visual artist who has provided VJing for major festivals like Summer Sonic, managed the video composition; and Takeshi Nakatsuka composed the music. The result is a surreal, interactive visual experience that resonates with the senses.

RIO's work expresses the uncertainty of emotions born from visual perception, depicting a unique world of intertwined flora and figures in monochrome. How will her new video artwork, alongside dynamic drawings that transform depending on the viewer's perspective, surprise us?
